University parish of the Archdiocese of Salzburg

The Kollegienkirche in Salzburg is the church of the University of Salzburg and comes from the Baroque period. It is located at the University Square. The Patrocinium is the Immaculate Conception of Mary, the patronal feast, in Austria a solemn and legal Holiday, is celebrated on 8 December.

The church is a listed building and belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Center of Salzburg.

When the Austrian masterbuilder "Johann Fischer v. Erlach" created the building as a university church, one of the most important Baroque churches in Central Europe was built.

Salzburg Festival

Max Reinhardt and Hugo von Hofmannsthal saw the Kollegienkirche as the appropriate venue for the staging of their mystery play Das Salzburger große Welttheater (1922).
